I specifically did not want to feel like I missed out on doing anything on my vacation, and while I did A LOT in France, it seems that even though I accomplished my *stated* goals, it left me wanting more. A trademark of a good vacation, I think.

Daytona is going to be so boring after this!

I cannot say enough good things about the people I met in France. Specifically, I'd like to thank Nico, Yohann's roommate, for being cool with me staying at the apartment.

Altogether, I found the French people to be generous, good hosts and very, very fun to party with. (Oh and attractive and charming, but we Americans knew that.)

My last day on my own I visited the house of Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc) in Orléans. It wasn't actually her house--she only slept overnight there.

I bought some lemon syrup, Lemon Fanta (I am so going to lobby Coca Cola to bring this fine product to the U.S.) and cookies at a grocery store. I also visited a tea store (Café Jeanne d’Arc), where I had a comical time trying to communicate with the salesperson, and ended up buying jam instead of tea. (However, I'm told the jam is excellent.)

I wish I had bought more stuff here since it is sale (solde) time in France for the next six weeks, but I felt it was more important to visit desired places while I could rather than buy stuff I probably don't even need. I only regret I wasn't brave enough to take trains the previous week to Versailles or another city.

Hey, an excuse to come back another time...

And here it's time for the big thank you: MAJOR THANK YOU TO YOHANN! My time in Orléans has been unforgettable. I'm so glad you invited me. And thanks, too, to the rest of the Orléanais I met. Come see me in Florida!



Je voulais ne pas omettre de faire quoi que ce soit pendant mes vacances, et bien que j’ai fait beaucoup de choses en France – je pense avoir fait tout ce que j’avais prévu de faire – j’en ai envie d’encore plus. Une marque de bonnes vacances, je pense.

Daytona va être bien ennuyant après ça !

Je ne peux pas dire assez de bonnes choses sur les gens que j’ai rencontré en France. J’aimerais remercier particulièrement Nico, le colocataire de Yohann, pour avoir été cool avec moi et m’avoir laissé rester à l’appartement.

Tout à fait : j’ai trouvé les français généreux, bons hôtes et vraiment, vraiment drôles en soirée. (Oh et attirants et charmants, mais nous, Américains, savions déjà ça).

Le dernier jour, j’ai visité la maison de Jeanne d’Arc à Orléans. Ce n’était pas vraiment sa maison, elle n’y a dormi qu’une nuit.

J’ai acheté du sirop de citron, du Fanta Lemon (pour inciter Coca Cola à apporter cet excellent produit aux Etats-Unis) et des biscuits d’une épicerie. J’ai aussi visité un magasin de thé (Café Jeanne d’Arc), dans lequel – après avoir essayé assez risiblement de communiquer avec le gérant – j’ai fini par acheter de la confiture au lieu de thé. (Malgré tout, la confiture est excellente).

J’aurais souhaité acheter plus de choses ici vu que c’est les soldes en France pendant six semaines, mais je trouvais plus important de visiter plutôt que d’acheter des choses dont je n’aurais probablement pas besoin. Je regrette seulement ne pas avoir été assez courageuse pour prendre le train la semaine précédente pour aller à Versailles ou une autre ville.

Et il est temps pour le grand remerciement : GRAND MERCI A YOHANN ! Mon passage à Orléans a été inoubliable. Je suis si contente que tu m’aies invité. Et merci, aussi, à tous les autres Orléanais que j’ai rencontré. Venez me voir en Floride !
